There was palpable tension and pandemonium in Jos, the Plateau State capital as stray bullet from a policeman shot dead a 17-year-old trader, Ibuchi Iffoneze, and injured one commercial motorcycle operator around the popular Terminus Market on Monday.

AIT.live correspondent gathered that the incident occurred around 1pm when a police patrol team stormed the Bayan Banki market around Terminus and attempted to arrested some commercial motorcycle operators, popularly known as Okada riders.

An eye witness, Goodwin Onyeka, who gave his own account of what happened said “He believes that it was the stray bullet from the police that killed the innocent trader because they had shot sporadically to scare the people in order to rest the okada riders”.

Chairman of the market, Yayaha Umar, said they had commenced business, in the morning when they suddenly heard that one of their members was shot dead by the police who came around the market, and arrested an okada rider, who has disobeyed the law.

The Chairman while appealing to Government to take serious action and ensure that the preparators of the act are arrested explained that the development created tension around the market as traders hurriedly closed their shops.

The Plateau State Police Command while confirming the incident through its spokesperson, DSP Alfred Alabo, said it is on top of the situation and that the corpse of 17-year-old Ibuchi Iffoneze, has been taken to the Jos University Teaching Hospital.
