The Management of the University of Benin, Edo State has condemned the killing of a final year student of public administration in the school premises at about 9 pm on Monday 3 of April.

The student, Desmond Rukewve also known as Mayor was reportedly shot on the head thrice at close range by an unidentified gunman in one of the halls of residence in the school.

The Public relations officer of the University of Benin Benedicta Ehanire in a statement made available to journalists appealed to students and staff members to remain calm while security agencies work with the internal security of the institution to fish out and arrest the culprit.

The Management of the University of Benin however commiserated with the family and colleagues of the late student with a promise to work closely with the internal security unit in ensuring that such dastardly incident does not occur again within the University’s premises.

The body of the slain student has since been deposited at the UBTH mortuary.
Meanwhile, a lecture-free day was declared to mourn the late student who was a leader of the kegites club in the school.
