The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has directed its members to proceed on an indefinite from Monday, March 23, at the expiration of its two weeks warning strike.

ASUU President, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, at a briefing in Abuja on Monday, accused the Federal Government of failing to meet its demands over the controversial Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System, IPPIS, in the last series of meetings.

The academic body also insisted that the IPPIS is an initiative of the World Bank which is fraudulently being imposed on Nigerians with a huge amount of loan facility.

The university lecturers noted that the Coronavirus pandemic has further exposed the hypocrisy of the Nigerian government for its appalling budgetary allocation to education and health.

ASUU, however, offered its members as volunteers with medical practitioners, especially to rural areas to curb the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic.
