Lagos State Government is to conduct mass burial in 2 weeks if public motuaries in the State are not decongested.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu made the announcement in a statewide broadcast at his Marina official residence in Lagos.

He said the move has become necessary as the motuaries are getting filled in the face of the ongoing fight against COVID-19.

He explained that the motuaries were full not because of the COVID-19 fatalities but because many families have not been able to bury their loved ones due to the Easter period.

Sonwo-Olu urged residents of the State who still have the remains of their loved ones in mortuary to go and bury them as the State Government will be forced to hold mass burial of all the bodies in two weeks time.

The Governor also announced that he has pardoned 209 prisoners as part of ongoing efforts to decongest the correctional centres in the fight against COVID-19.

He has also officially issued an order for the mandatory use of face masks in the public places within the State.
