Authorities in Borno State say two patients including a 24 year-old male and 42 year-old female, are on the run after testing positive for Coronavirus.

Commissioner for Health, who is also the Secretary of the State High Powered Response Team for the Prevention and Control of Covid-19, Dr. Salisu Kwayabura, announced this at the daily media briefings in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

Kwayabura said the male patient, after an initial telephone contact with the response team had his sample collected but he has since switched off his phone, when he learnt that he has tested positive. The phone number through which the patient’s mother was in touch with the team has also been switched off with the young man in question going into hiding.

The Commissioner said surveillance and investigation teams are working hard to track the patients.

The Borno Covid-19 Response Team said anyone who tests positive for the disease should not think it is a death sentence, as many have recovered after treatment.

The Team has also announced that anyone without a face mask would not be allowed into the major markets during the relaxation of the lockdown, on Monday and Thursday.

It said hand washing points will also be in place, to ensure that hands are washed at entry and exit points.
