Nigeria to ease Coronavirus lockdown from Monday next week

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved a gradual easing of lockdown measures in the Federal Capital Territory, Lagos and Ogun States with effect from Monday, May 4, 2020.

In a nationwide broadcast on Monday night, April 27, the Nigerian leader announced new measures to curb the further spread of the pandemic.

The President directed that henceforth, there shall be overnight curfew from 8pm to 6am daily as well as a ban on nonessential inter-state passenger travel.

Also, partial and controlled inter-state movement of goods and services will be allowed for goods and services.

Furthermore, President Buhari directed a mandatory use of face masks or coverings in public.

The President noted that the restrictions on social and religious gatherings remain in place.

He also directed the enforcement of a total lockdown of Kano State for 2 weeks, noting that the Federal Government shall deploy all necessary human, material and technical resources to support the State in controlling and containing the pandemic.

President Buhari commended the front line workers across the country for risking their lives to win the fight against the pandemic.

He also recognised the support from traditional rulers, the Christian Association of Nigeria, the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs and other groups, for their contribution to the success recorded over Covid-19 till date.
