For effective adherence to the compulsory use of facemask as one of the conditions for the relaxation of the total lockdown, Delta State Government has threatened to compel anyone seen in public places without facemask to any of the isolation centres in the state.

Delta State Commissioner for Information, Charles Aniagwu, made this known to journalists in Asaba after a meeting of the Technical Committee for Prevention of COVID-19 in the state presided over by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.

Aniagwu said government’s decision to take defaulters of the compulsory use of facemask to isolation centres in the state was because it would be assumed that such a person already had the virus and wants to infect others.

Part of the resolutions reached by the Technical Committee include payment of allowances before the end of the week to all the health workers that are involved in the management of COVID-19 pandemic including insuring other health sector support staff that are involved in the current fight against COVID-19.

Aniagwu said more mobile courts for the trial of those who may disobey the compulsory use of facemask in public places have been set up

The Commissioner further urged the people of Delta State to heed to the government regulations on the management of the pandemic adding that everyone should adopt the mentality of assuming that every other person is a potential carrier of the virus.
