Labour Party leadership tussle: Court Assumes Jurisdiction To Hear Case Against Abure

The High Court of the FCT has assumed jurisdiction in the suit filed by the NPS and seven others against the suspended national chairman of Labour Party, Julius Abure, and three others.

Justice Muazu Hamza was ruling on the preliminary objection filed by the national chairman Julius Abure and the national secretary Farouq challenging the jurisdiction of the court to entertain the matter.

Justice Muazu Hamza in a short ruling held that the court has jurisdiction to hear the matter, adding that the plaintiffs are right by bringing the matter by originating summons add that the matter is justifiable to be heard.

He then adjourns to 17th May for a hearing on the substantive suit.

In the suit the applicant want an order restraining the national chairman Julius Abure as well as the National Secretary, Farouk Ibrahim; National Organizing Secretary, Oluchi Opara and National Treasurer, Clement Ojukwu from parading themselves as leaders of the Labour Party pending the hearing of a suit.

They are also seeking their sack over allegations of fraud amongst others, bothering on alleged forged court documents including receipts and seal of the FCT High Court which they had allegedly used in the substitutions of LP’s candidates in the 2023 general elections.

Julius Abure and three others remain suspended pending the outcome of the suit.
