The Kogi State government has acquired 5,000 covid-19 test kits and has tested over 100 persons for the virus with all of them testing negative.
This was made public by the state commissioner for health, saka haruna during a media briefing in Lokoja, the state capital.
Haruna was responding to allegations that the state had not carried out a single covid-19 test.
The state government’s covid-19 squadron committee of which the commissioner is a member says the covid-19 app it introduced has helped to keep health authorities on top of the situation.
While demonstrating the use of the test kits, the health commissioner said they are of international standard designed to get accurate results with minimum errors and at no cost
He said just as is the case with other diseases, no case of covid-19 , should it arise in the state will be covered up or treated lightly.
The commissioner for information and communication strategy, Kingsley Fanwo and the state chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria, John Ibenu expressed satisfaction with the state government’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Kogi remains one of two Nigerian states yet to record a single positive case of covid-19 and the state government appears determined to ensure that things stay that way.
