No fewer than 13 people were reportedly killed with two severely injured in a bloody attack on the Itakpa-Okpokwu community of Obi Local Government Area of Benue State by suspected herders.
Acting Chairman of the affected local council, Joseph Ikenyi, who confirmed the unfortunate incident via telephone, said the attackers who were about 10 in number stormed the village at about 7 pm on Sunday shooting sporadically.
He noted that the community was in a mode of celebration following the successful conduct of the local government election on Saturday when the armed bandits took them by surprise shooting and hacking down anyone on their path which led to the death of the Peoples Democratic Party chairman for Okpokwu council ward, Christian Abe, and a friend.
