Media practitioners and civil society members have been called upon to support persons with Albinism in Nigeria to break certain cultural myths and gender-based violence that have hindered them from attaining their goals in life.
The call was made by an Albinism advocacy organization, seeking an end to human rights abuses and physical assault on women and girls with Albinism and their mothers through necessary interventions
The sensitization workshop organized by the Initiative For the Advancement of Albinism Cause, INAAC and other keyplayers is soliciting support from the media and civil society members to help amplify their voice to break down the prejudices with albinism.
while acknowledging that women of all ages with albinism are being affected by gender-based violence, rape and discrimination, participants charged the media to use its Professional ethics in covering issues to promote interventions and communicate understanding about albinism.
Albinism is a genetic condition that affects the pigmentation of the eyes, hair and skin but does not affect the lifespan or fertility of persons living with the condition.
