The Kwara State Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service says the high level of Smuggling of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, also known as Petrol has abated following the removal of subsidy on the product in the country.

The Comptroller of the Command, Kehinde Ilesanmi disclosed this in Ilorin the Kwara State capital during a press briefing on the activities of the Command in the second quarter of 2023.

In the past, the Kwara State Area Command and the Joint Border Patrol Team of the Nigeria Customs Service intercepted large volumes of premium motor spirit and other illegal goods around the border communities; but this has been drastically reduced due to the removal of fuel subsidy in the country according to the Kwara Area Command of the Nigeria Customs, Comptroller Kehinde Ilesanmi.
