The National Orientation Agency says one of the greatest challenges to democratic growth in Nigeria is the issue of voter apathy, which happens as a result of negative trends associated with the electoral process and must be addressed going forward.

The Director General, (DG) of the National Orientation Agency, Garba Abari, who stated this in Lokoja at a sensitization parley with key players, ahead of the Governorship Election in November, says achieving a peaceful election requires a collective effort from all concerned.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC), has yet to release any official report, about the statistical participation of Nigerians during the 2023 General Election.

However, numbers by observer groups put the figure of voter turnout between 2.6 and 2.8 percent, respectively.

The Director General of the National Orientation Agency, Garba Abari, is meeting with key election players in Lokoja, ahead of the governorship election in the state, and for him, voter apathy is a challenge to Nigeria’s democracy.

Garba Abari wants the people of Kogi State to prove Nigerians wrong about the prediction making the rounds, that the November election will be bloody.

The Police and other key players were on hand to lend their voices to the issue of credible elections.
