The Personal Assistant to the kidnapped wife of the Appeal Court Justice, Glory Akpama, has been confirmed dead at the Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital, Calabar. This follows her being shot by the gunmen who came to whisk away her principal on Saturday night.

Akpama, an Indigene of Abi Local Government Area of Cross River State, was shot by the kidnappers while trying to resist them from kidnapping Madam Agube at her shop in Ekorinim in the Calabar Municipality Area Council.

An eyewitness said she was rushed to the hospital in the pool of her blood where she was pronounced dead hours later.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Security (South), Ani Esin, said she died hours after being taken to the hospital.

Ani, however, said no bullet wound was found on her after preliminary checks, an indication that she may have collapsed and died of shock, during the incident.

He said the Nigerian Navy has provided two gunboats to comb all the riverine creeks and waters along the Calabar Corridors.

The Security Adviser assured that the kidnapped victim would be released unhurt in no distant time.

Mrs Ekwele Agube, the wife of Justice Ignatius Agube of the Court of Appeal was kidnapped Saturday night by some gunmen who came to her shop at Ekorinim and took her away in a commercial Audi Car.

There has been no official communication between the kidnappers and the family, demanding for ransom, as at the time of filing this report.

The Cross River State Command of the Nigeria Police whose Commissioner has just been redeployed is yet to issue any statement on the kidnap.
