The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons NAPTIP Edo State has called for collaboration with the public and communities in the state to kick out the scourge of trafficking in persons and forced migration.
The zonal director of the agency made the call on Sunday during a sensitization and awareness walk with other partner organizations including the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees on world day for Trafficking in Persons held in Benin City Edo state, Nigeria.
The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, UNHCR and the IOM are in synergy with other partners to create necessary advocacy and interventions to reinforce global commitment to eliminate the scourge of human trafficking.
As they walk around major streets of Benin to sensitize and create awareness on the dangers of human trafficking, irregular and forced migration, Major players in the fight against human trafficking say global crises including economic difficulties are escalating trafficking issues even as NAPTIP admits the rescue of over twenty thousand victims and conviction of one hundred and twenty-four suspects from 2022 till date.

While NAPTIP seeks the collaboration of government and communities in the fight against trafficking, it says it has identified those living with disabilities including the deaf community as vulnerable groups that can be exploited.
The world day on human trafficking is celebrated every July thirty to sensitize and create awareness on the dangers of human trafficking, irregular and forced migration.
