Bayelsa State Government has announced a revision of the state’s 2020 budget from the initial N242.18 billion naira to N183.15 billion naira.
At a public session this Monday in Yenagoa, Governor Douye Diri explained that the reduction of the budget was in accordance with the state’s amended Fiscal Responsibility Law of 2009 as well as the negative effects of COVID-19 on the economy.
Although it was a virtual meeting, government officials and stakeholders converge on the Harold Dappa-Biriye conference centre, Yenagoa, to make their submissions for the 2020 budget.
Governor Douye Diri gave a breakdown of the new Bayelsa 2020 budget estimate which was reduced by 24.3% from the initial 242.28 billion naira.
Governor Diri attributed the reduction to the current harsh economic realities as responsible for the new fiscal direction of the state government
Senator Diri also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare of workers, following the sum of #51,64B for personnel cost which was not reduced.
The public forum tagged “citizens participatory session on review of the 2020 consolidation for prosperity budget” also allowed the people to make inputs.
