Project Manager of Games Village at the ongoing 7th National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State, South-South Nigeria, Ademola Are, has debunked online reports that the organisers have failed to provide decent accommodation facilities for the athletes.

Are who was reacting to an online picture footage where athletes were shown sleeping on the bare floor, said it is not true that athletes were allowed to sleep on the floor. He attributed the scenario being painted in bad light to states which stretched the host with more contingents than their list on the Delegates Registered Meeting, DRM, submitted to the Main Organising Committee.

In a related development, Chairman of the Delta State Commission, Tonybok Okowa, has appealed to the National Executive Committee of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN to ensure that members always confirm information before pushing them out to the public.

Okowa who is also the President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), also assured the sports writers of the support of the Commission and urged them to help in the growth of sports at the grassroots.
