The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, NAMA, says it has created nine new Performance-Based Navigation, PBN, Area Navigation 10 NAV10 regional routes across the nation’s Airspace.

The Managing Director of NAMA, Captain Fola Akinkuotu, who made this known in a release said the agency had to embark on the plan to enhance regional connectivity, reduce flight time as well as reduce carbon dioxide emission into the environment and reduce the cost to operators and as well reduce pilot workload and enhance airspace capacity.

He stressed that the plan also became necessary following the planned resumption of international flights in the country.

Akinkuotu listed the newly created PBN routes to include UQ300- connecting Lagos to the Central African Republic; UY604- linking Abuja, Port Harcourt to Southern Africa; UQ181- connecting East and Central Africa to Europe through Nigerian airspace and UQ400- connecting southern Africa to North Africa through Nigeria to Europe.

The NAMA Managing Director also disclosed that apart from the PBN routes, the agency has also created six new flight plannable direct routes.

The anticipated direct routes, according to the NAMA boss are, to be used by compliant airlines flight management systems and would avail them the opportunity of flight planning and route within the Nigerian airspace from an entry point directly to an exit point without recourse to existing Air Traffic Service route network.
