The Nigerian Association Of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Bauchi State Chapter, in collaboration with the Office Of The Wife Of The Bauchi State Government and the Planned Parenthood Federation no of Nigeria, have organized a two-day health talk, a free breast cancer screening, screening/referral on cervical cancer, and childbirth spacing counseling for women in Miri District, Bauchi Local Government.

According to the Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, Rashida Yusuf, the focus is to create more awareness about the deadly breast cancer among women.

According to a report released by the World Health Organization (WHO), in 2023, cervical cancer ranks as the 2nd most frequent cancer among women in Nigeria and the 2nd most frequent cancer death among women between 15 and 44 years of age.

The human papillomavirus infection (HPV) types 16, 18, 31, 35, 51, and 52 are all high-risk and prevalent serotypes in Nigeria, with serotypes 16 and 18 responsible for 66.9% of Nigeria’s cervical cancer prevalence.

The convergence on this primary health care in Miri is because of an invitation for women to check their health status.

Elizabeth Kah is a victim and a survivor of breast cancer, present here after 20 years.

For these two days, these women are expected to be properly checked, screened, and counseled on the deadly cervical and breast cancer among women and advised further on child spacing.
