Doctors on the payroll of Ondo state Government may be forced to embark on strike over failure to implement the new approved hazard allowance for medical personnel in the state.
Chairman of the Nigeria Medical Association in the state ,Omosehin Adeyemi-Osowe gave the indication at a press conference to usher in the 2023 Physician week in the state.
Currently, Doctors working in different Government facilities in the state are paid Five thousand naira as hazard allowance monthly.
However after several interfaces with the Government, an increase in the allowance was approved in August 2023.
Worried over the non-implementation and issuance of circular to that effect after two months,the leadership of the Nigeria Medical Association says its members might be forced to embark on strike Friday this week.
They also want the Government to ensure timely employment of more health workers to fill the vacuum created by massive Exodus of personnel from the state.
Ondo State that used to have about nine hundred doctors on Government payroll now has less than three hundred and fifty.
