NEDC Trains Medical Personnel On Cervical Cancer Detection

The North East Development Commission (NEDC) is collaborating with medical personnel in the six states that make up the North East region of the country in the treatment and management of cervical cancer which is on the rise, according to a recent data.

As part of the collaboration, the Commission has begun a train-the-trainer session with top medical experts from the states to understand the diagnosis and treatment of an ailment which has become one of the health challenges that had reduced the population of the women, especially in the rural areas.

A clinical illustration on the detection and management of cervical cancer as demonstrated by the specialist to top medical personnel from hospitals in the six states of the north east gave them the opportunity of understanding the health risks of cervical cancer to women.

According to available data, over sixty million women in the country suffer from the ailment, with a majority of these cases recorded in Northern Nigeria for which the North East region has the highest of recorded cases.

It is for this reason that North East Development Commission explained her intervention to check the rise in cases with this initiative of training the doctors and other medical personnel on the detection and management of the ailment.

For the participants, the training would afford them the opportunity to have a better understand of the characteristics of the ailment.

Health watchers expect that the training would be a template to ensure proper diagnosis for an aliment that could be well managed if detected on time.
