Police in Katsina parade 23 suspects for various crimes

The Katsina State Police Command says it has arrested and paraded no fewer than 23 suspects alleged to have committed various crimes including banditry, kidnapping, and theft.

In a statement by the Command’s spokesman, Gambo Isah, the suspects were arrested during recent operations between September 16 and October 3, 2020.

Among the suspects is a 20-year-old Sani Haruna, from Kwakwara Village in the Safana Local Government Area of the state who was said to have confessed that, he and seven others who are now at large, had earlier attacked Kwakwara village and killed a 60-year-old man, Mallam Murnai and also injured his son, Gambo Saidu, before dispossessing them of eight cows, 50 sheep, and 10 goats.

Isah also noted that Haruna was arrested with one AK-47 rifle, allegedly found on him during is arrest.

The statement further hinted that another 25-year-old suspect, Sanusi Abubakar of Unguwar Gajere village in Kankara Local Government Area of the state was also arrested.

According to the police image maker, Abubakar was alleged to have conspired with two other suspects who are also at large to kidnap one Haruna Garba whose family paid N3m ransom.

Isah added, “The suspect (Abubakar) confessed that in the process of kidnapping the said Alhaji Haruna, one of the suspects who is at large, Ibrahim Kawo, shot and killed one Ibrahim Lado.”

Items recovered from the suspects include the sum of about 2 million Naira, 1 AK 47 rifle, two locally fabricated guns, 20 parcels of substance suspected to be cannabis sativa, eight different handsets, unspecified number of rustled animals, among others.

SP Gambo said all the suspects will be prosecuted after the completion of the investigations.
