Following the defection of twenty-seven Lawmakers of the Rivers State House of Assembly loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory FCT Nyesom wike to the ruling All Progressives Congress APC, some Rivers residents have expressed diverse opinions on the development.

This is coming after several weeks of unhealthy relationship between the Executive and the legislative arms of government in the state.

The recent political happenings in Rivers State in the view of many were capable of slowing the pace of development in every sector of the state’s economy.

Although it is not the first time Rivers people are witnessing such unhealthy relationship between the two arms of government as it is a repeat of the two thousand and thirteen episode where Rivers people saw a divided assembly with majority of members on the side of the then Governor Rotimi Amaechi. But the present state of affairs is the direct opposite of the incident as majoriy of the lawmakers are against the Governor which makes their defection to the All Progressives Congress a bit worrisome.

While some described the decision as a move in the right direction ,they charged the defecting Lawmakers to ensure their loyalty is to the leadership of the APC and not to an Individual.

With the defection of the twenty-seven lawmakers to the ruling APC, there are speculations that more defections will be seen in the coming days, prominent among which will be that of the FCT minister.
