The National Assembly has rejected the N165 billion proposed Budget for the Nigerian Judicial Council for the 2024 Fiscal year for being too paltry.

The Committee also summoned the Director General of Budget office as well as the Minister of Budget and National Planning to appear before it on Thursday at noon .

They are expected to explain why such a crucial agency and an arm of the Government will be appropriated such meager sum

This is the outcome of the Budget Defence Session with the Executive Secretary of the NJC Ahmed Gambo and Members of the Joint Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal matters

According to the lawmakers the budget as presented has failed and cannot be implemented as the proposed sum of N165billion for the NJC will turn them to Beggars

The lawmakers also want N15billion Outstanding from the 2023 budget of N150billion to be released to the NJC as soon as possible to Carry out its constitutional Mandate

They stress that the national assembly has laws which budget formulations are premised on and with the submission by NJC those provisions have been bridged

The Committee has Adjourned till Thursday , to allow the DG budget and the Minister of Finance to appear before it with clarification on the funds appropriated for NJC.
