The Benue State Government has refuted recent media reports of a resurgence in cases of the COVID-19 pandemic in the State.

Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Ortese Yarmar, made the clarification in reaction to recent media publications which claimed that the World Health Organization (WHO), announced twenty-five (25) fresh cases of the deadly Coronavirus disease, COVID-19 infections in Benue State, North central of Nigeria.

The Health Commissioner insists that currently the State has no active Coronavirus cases as the last record made was in the first quarter of the year.

“World Health Organisation confirms 25 new cases of COVID 19 in Benue State” is certainly not the kind of resurgence any resident will like to hear, particularly during such festive periods”.

“It was therefore quite a relief when the Commissioner for health and human services Ortese Yarmar said the the last active case in the State was recorded in April this year with all patients being asymptomatic”, the statement emphasised.

“Representative of the World Health Organisation in the State corroborated the Health Commissioner’s statement, insisting that the surveillance officer was misquoted and only the Country Director can speak on behalf of the organisation, especially in declaring an outbreak”
