The Supreme Court has affirmed Abdulahi Sule as the duly elected Governor of Nasarawa State dismissing the appeal filed by David Ombugadu, the governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) challenging the Court of Appeal decision.
The five man panel led by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun dismissed the appeal for lacking in merit, while upholding the decision of the appeal court.
The PDP and its governorship candidate Ombugadu had urged the court to set aside the November 23 judgment of the Court of Appeal which upheld Sule as the lawfully elected governor of the state.
However the Appellate Court upturned the Tribunal judgment on grounds of insufficient evidence by Ombugadu to prove allegations of over-voting against Sule.

INEC had declared Sule winner of the governorship election on the ground that he
polled a total of 347,209 votes to defeat his closest opponent David Emmanuel Ombugadu who secured 283,016 votes.
In a split decision on October 2, the tribunal nullified Sule’s election and upheld Ombugadu as the winner.
