The Plateau State Police Command has paraded 17 suspects allegedly linked to the attacks and killings of innocent citizens in communities of Mangu, Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi Local Government Areas of Plateau State.

Among the 17suspects, the Police claim that 8 of them are involved in the 2023 Christmas Eve massacre in Bokkos, Mangu and Barkin Ladi, in which over 200 lives were lost.

According to the Police report, 9 of the suspects are being held in connection with what it refers to as the recent “dastardly” and “heinous crimes” in Mangu Local Government Area, despite the curfew imposed on the area by the government.

Following the Christmas Eve attacks which claimed the lives of over 200 villagers in Mangu, Bokkos and Barkin Ladi, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun had deployed the AIG incharge of Zone 4, Ebong Eyibio to Plateau State with the directive to unmask the attackers.

Briefing Newsmen on Thursday at the Command’s headquarters in Jos, spokesman of the Police, Plateau State Command, DSP Alfred Alabo on behalf of AIG Zone 4, Ebong Eyibio confirmed the success story recorded by the Police so far.

The Command also disclosed that within the last two days, over 10 corpses were recovered from various locations, two injured persons currently receiving treatment at the hospital, one car and ten houses were burnt down following the fresh attacks in Mangu communities.

To further strengthen the existing security architecture in Mangu and ensure compliance with the curfew imposed by the government and prevent further escalation of the incidences, the AIG said he has ordered the deployment of additional Special Intervention personnel to restore normalcy in the troubled areas, while urging the public to remain calm and cooperate with the security agencies.
