The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Thursday distributed sensitive electoral materials to the five Local Government Areas that make up Ebonyi South Senatorial district where a bye-election will hold on Saturday, February 3, 2024.
The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in charge of Ebonyi State, Ugochi Onyeka told Journalists at the premises of the Central Bank in Abakaliki that the electoral body is set for the exercise.
Party agents, representatives of election monitoring groups, the civil society organisation, security agencies and INEC officials were all present during the inspection and distribution of the electoral materials as well as their dispatch to the respective Local Government Areas of Afikpo, Edda, Ohaozara, Onicha and Ivo.
In a related development, the Eight political parties participating in the Ebonyi South senatorial bye-election have signed a Peace Accord, with the candidate of the Labour Party, Linus Okorie being present while others were represented by their party officials at the State INEC headquarters in Abakaliki

The INEC National Commissioner in charge of Ebonyi, Anambra and Imo States, Kenneth Ukeagu, warned political leaders and actors of the consequences of breaching the provisions and terms of the peace accord.
He explained that election will hold at 868 polling units, as against the 870 polling units of Ebonyi South senatorial zone, due to zero registered voters in 2 polling units, urging the electoral to go out on the election day and cast their ballots.
