The Bauchi state Police Command has reassured citizens of the state of its unwavering commitment towards their safety ahead of the planned nationwide protests by the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC scheduled for 27th and 28th February 2024.

The Command in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Ahmed Wakili said, the command has taken into cognisance that every citizen has constitutional rights to peaceful protest, including legitimate Labour unions.

He, however, advised the protesters to ensure that all processions are conducted within the ambit of the law, as the command will exercise its full powers to ensure no rights of other citizens are violated.

The statement further states that adequate security measures will be put in place to ensure hitch-free rallies in the State.

The statement also says that the command in conjunction with relevant security agencies in the state will not hesitate to subdue any individual or groups that may willfully hide behind peaceful protests to cause havoc and breach of public peace as well as safety in the State.

It says any attempt by reckless miscreants or hoodlums to take advantage of the planned processions to cause trouble will be legitimately resisted.

The State Commissioner of Police, Auwal Mohammed, urges parents and guardians to caution their children and wards not to be used as cannon-fodders to jeopardise the relatively enduring peace being enjoyed in the State.
