The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, TUC says it never agreed to go on protest with the Nigeria Labour Congress, scheduled to begin on Tuesday.
At a media conference, in Abuja on Monday, the TUC President, Festus Osifo said On the sixteen point agreement reached with the Federal Government on October 2, 2023, which necessitated a 14 day ultimatum jointly signed by NLC and TUC, the government has met partially its demands, therefore it has no reason to protest.
However, the TUC identified the falling Naira and insecurity as the two main causes of the current economic hardship.
The TUC gave the federal government two weeks ultimatum to peg the naira at between 480 and 650 naira per dollar.
In a fifteen point demand read to journalists, the TUC also said it is giving the federal government until March ending to begin production of fuel from the port Harcourt Refinery.
At the moment the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC is putting finishing touches to its planned protest tomorrow.
