The Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Nadada has placed personnel of the command on red alert across major towns and villages to protect government installations, private and public infrastructures and ensure their safety during the planned nationwide protests by the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC
A statement issued by the Police command’s public relations officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP Ramhan Nansel, indicates that the command is aware of the constitutional rights of all citizens to peaceful protest.
Nansel in the statement advised the protesters to ensure all processions are peaceful and conducted within the ambit of the law as violations of other people’s rights under the guise of protest will not be tolerated.
The statement further stated that the Commissioner of Police has deployed operational and manpower assets of the Command to adequately ensure hitch-free conduct of any procession across the state and warned officers to be civil and professional in the discharge of their duties.
The statement urged residents to go about their lawful businesses without any fear of criminal intimidation as well as called on parents and guardians to advised their children and wards to shun all forms of violence and be law-abiding.
