ASUU prepares members for challenging times

Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities have been urged to always uphold principles of integrity, accountability, and doggedness in times of challenges.

The Vice President of ASUU, Professor Christopher Piwuna who gave the charge during the 2024 orientation and symposium for members organised by the Federal University of Technology, Minna branch also tasked them to always stand and work together for the survival of the Nigerian university system.

At a time when the principles and roles of ASUU seem to be devaluing especially with the current challenges faced in the education sector, members of the union have been urged to remain focused and committed.

The call was made by the Vice President of ASUU, Professor Christopher Piwuna reminding both the old and new members of the need to continuously uphold the tenets of the union at all times especially, integrity, honesty, dedication, and above all teamwork.

While calling on members to be patient with the leadership of the union, Piwuna is optimistic that their 7 months entitlement owed by the government shall be paid as they keep striving for it.

The ASUU chairperson of the FUTMinna, Professor Gbolahon Bolarin said the orientation and symposium were organised haven observed that some members of the union tend to deviate from the core principles and roles of ASUU.

At the event, the Registrar and chief executive officer of NECO, professor Dantani Wushishi urged government to bring about good governance, and give universities renewed hope for the survival of the university system.

The 2024 orientation and symposium for members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, FUTMinna branch with the theme, ASUU: Principles and roles in the survival of Nigerian University System witnessed an interactive session with the ASUU vice president who was the guest lecturer.
