The Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NUP has criticised Federal Government’s decision to scrap the Pensions Transitional Arrangement Directorate, PTAD as recommended in the Steve Oronsaye Report.

Pensioners in South-West Zone in Abeokuta the Ogun State capital say the scrapping of PTAD would do more harm than good to members.

The Union’s Public Relations Officer, Olusegun Abatan, during a meeting of State Chairmen, Secretaries and leaders across South-West Nigeria noted that before the establishment of PTAD, pensioners were treated inhumanly and had their pensions fraudulently stolen by government personnel who managed it.

The Union also lamented its exclusion from the National Minimum Wage Tripartite Committee.

They maintained that the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC and Trade Union Congress, TUC cannot articulate their position and appealed that NUP be given full membership of the Tripartite Committee.
