Women in the Nigerian aviation sector have called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to keenly continue appointing women into key positions in the sector after the appointment of the Managing Director, the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, Olubunmi kuku.

The women, made the call at the 2024 international women’s day in Abuja to mark the event.

Others sought for better gender sensitive policies at workplaces particularly for lactating mothers, pregnant women and those living with disabilities through implementation stages of women rights protection laws, appealing to the 10th assembly not to allow the 5 genders bills suffer the same fate as the last legislative session.

In May 2023, The former Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, NAMA Matthew Pwajok had disclosed that the Nigerian aviation sector supported the nation’s GDP with over 241,000 jobs but only 13 percent in the industry are held by women as majority of aircraft pilots, Air traffic Engineers, flight engineers, Air traffic controllers and aviation administrators are male.

The executive side has only 3 per cent of managerial and executive positions held by women.
