The Nigerian Senate has dismissed reports that the 2024 Appropriation Act is padded with N3 trillion.

The Chairman Senate Committee on Media and Publicity, Yemi Adaramodu, made the clarification in a statement , in reaction to claims by Chairman of Northern Senators Forum, Abdul Ningi.

Senator Abdul Ningi, in an interview with the BBC revealed that northern senators hired consultants to scrutinise the 2024 budget, which he alleged is padded by about N3 trillion

This, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, describes as untrue

Adaramodu emphasized that the budgetary process has been transparent , properly scrutinized before receiving President Bola Tinubu’s assent.

Senator Adaramodu clarified that the budget, which outlines the expected revenue and expenditure, had been publicly available to all Nigerians

He stated that the 10th Senate, under the leadership of Senator Godswill Akpabio, is unaware of any alterations made to the document.

He also assures the general public that the 2024 appropriation will be strictly executed under strict legislative oversight.

The National Assembly passed the 2024 budget of N28.7 trillion on December 30, 2023, N1.2 trillion higher than the N27.5 trillion President Bola Tinubu presented to the joint session of the National Assembly on November 29 2023
