Twelve political parties are contesting the 44 chairmanship positions and 484 councillorship seats in the local government election in Kano State, North-West Nigeria
The conduct of the election was characterised by low voter turnout and late arrival of election officials and materials.
Though security operatives enforced the restriction of movement order to allow people participate in the election peacefully, electoral officials who arrived the polling units late were seen waiting for registered voters to turnout.
Streets were empty and many shops closed as people stay indoors because of the restriction of movement order imposed for the election.
At one of the polling stations at Magwan Primary School where the State Deputy Governor, Nasiru Gawuna casts his vote, election officials arrived with voting materials but only one voter was around as at 11am to exercise his civic.
