Enugu State

Despite the rising cases of infections and deaths from Covid-19, there seems to be a very low public awareness among residents of Enugu metropolis on the provisions of the Coronavirus Health Protection Regulations law (2021) recently signed by President Muhammadu Buhari.

To this effect the people want the authorities to do more on public enlightenment.

The new law signed by President Mohammadu Buhari stipulates punishment for any offenders who breach any of preventive and medical protocols aimed at curtailing the rapid spread of the Coronavirus.

Records from across the state show that the level of compliance with these protocols remain very low, with many people claiming ignorance of the new law and its consequences.

To further ensure the protection of the lives of residents, the Enugu state government has directed residents to go for voluntary test.

Giving an update on the infection rate of COVID-19 in Enugu state, Commissioner for Information, Chidi Aroh notes that the state has so far recorded over one thousand seven hundred confirmed laboratory cases, with twenty one deaths casualties.

Aroh however explains that under this second wave of the Coronavirus pandemic in Nigeria, the Enugu state government is doing everything possible to contain the spread in line with the NCDC precautionary measures.

It would be recalled that Enugu state on the 28th of March 2020, recorded its first index positive case of the global COVID-19 pandemic.
