No fewer than 19 people are said to have been killed while yet to be ascertained number of houses razed as armed herdsmen invade Agojeju Odo and Abejukolo communities in Omala Local Government Area of Kogi State, North-Central Nigeria.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Aya, who confirmed the incident said that about 19 people were killed in the communal clash but that officers and men of the State Police Command, Counter-Terrorism Unit and the Army have been mobilised to restore normalcy in the communities.
Eye witnesses also said that the attack was carried out on Thursday when the gunmen mobilised in what he describes as “reprisal attack” and invaded the two communities inflicting maximum damages.
Also, one of the locals who lost his wife and children, said that the herdsmen decided to unleash mayhem on them after alleging that the people of Agojeju Odo and Abejukolo communities
were in complicit with the Agatu people against them.
He therefore appealed to Governor Usman Ododo and all the security agencies to proactively come to their aid by deploying more security personnel to the area to support the Police.
