One year and eight months after expiration of the tenure of the last elected Local Government Chairmen and Councilors in Bayelsa State on August 10, 2022, elections are underway to elect new officials.
The new Chairmen and Councilors to be elected in the eight Local Government Council will takeover from Caretaker Committee members who have been running affairs.
Governor Douye Diri who cast his vote in Kalama-Wari Ward 6 Unit 3 in Sampou community in Kolokuma-Opokuma Local Government Area has described the council election as impressive.
He believes that the candidates of his Peoples Democratic Party, PDP will carry the day given their vigorous campaign. This is as the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC has boycotted the polls. Governor Diri however says the decision to boycott the election was only taken by a faction of the APC
At other polling units visited by AIT.live, a large turnout of voters who are eager to vote the candidates of their choice at the grassroot were seen on the queues waiting for their turn to exercise their franchise.
