For Nigeria’s blue economy to succeed, the country’s Navy has a critical role to play.
Akwa Ibom state Governor, Umo Eno stated this in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital, South South Nigeria, while playing host to the Flag Officer Commanding the Eastern Naval Command of the Nigerian Navy, Rear Admiral Saheed Akinwande.
One area of Nigeria’s economy that has remained largely untapped is in the maritime environment and with the Federal and state Government placing high premium on developing the blue economy, the role of security agencies , particularly the Nigerian Navy , will need to be strengthened to maximize potentials in the sector.
This much Akwa Ibom state Governor, Umo Eno emphasized when the Flag Officer Commanding the Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral Saheed Akinwande paid him a courtesy visit.

Eno congratulated Akinwande on his assumption of duties and enumerated measures taken by his administration to improve security in the state.
Rear Admiral Akinwande briefed the Governor on steps taken to step up naval operations in the coastal region.
Akwa Ibom State is one of Nigeria’s Coastal States and with incidents of Sea Piracy and smuggling being major sources of concern, stemming the tide of security is a task that must be pursued rigorously.
