NASARAWA
Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule

Nasarawa State, Governor, Abdullahi Sule says his administration has proscribed the Fulani ethnic vigilante group, the Bassa vigilante group and the Eggon vigilante group operating in the State as some of them currently pose threats to security.

The Governor made this known during an emergency security council meeting, after he signed the Executive Order No. 1 of 2024 in Lafia. He said the decision was necessitated by recent sessions with President Bola Tinubu in Lagos, as well as some security chiefs in Abuja.

Sule expressed concern over security challenges which include activities of ethnic militia groups and the escalation of abductions in Keffi, Doma, Lafia, Awe, Obi, Keana, Karu and Nasarawa Local Government Areas of the state.

The Governor noted that the activities of the Bassa militia group, which previously operated under the ambit of the Bassa Vigilante Group is the reason why the State Government has considered the ban on the ethnic vigilante group and others including the Fulani Vigilante Group that has existed in the state since 2009.

The Governor added that his administration once ready will give members of such ethnic vigilante groups a grace period within which to join existing community vigilante group.

Appreciating his Deputy, Emmanuel Akabe who stood in for him while he was away to Saudi Arabia on Lesser Hajj, Governor Sule also thanked all those that supported him especially traditional rulers and security agencies.

He commended security agencies for working hard to mitigate security challenges that would have been worse than what was recently experienced in the state.
