The Nigerian Senate says it is confident the Port Harcourt refinery will commence full operation before the end of the year

And while it’s not the first time the hopes of Nigerians have been raised, Chairman of the Ad-hoc Committee set up by the senate to investigate the various turn around maintenance projects on Nigerian refineries, Ifeanyi Ubah says his committee’s findings show that the refinery upgrade and full rehabilitation is almost at 90 percent completion

Senator Ubah made known when he and other members of the Adhoc- Committee met with the Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara.
The NIgerian National Petroleum Company Limited and the Minister of state for Petroleum had given several dates for the commencement of operations of the refinery with none of them achieved.

The old refinery was built in 1965, while the second refinery was built 23 years later in 1989

This is not the first time hopes will be raised about the refineries coming back to live, but the chairman of the Senate Adhoc Committees Ifeanyi Ubah wants Nigerians to discard their doubts, assuring that the latest date is credible.

Happy with the development, Governor Sim Fubara says his administration is already complimenting the efforts of the federal government with the construction of an alternative road to the Port Harcourt refinery.
