The United States and the European Union have condemmned the latest attacks on Damasak town in Borno State, calling on all parties to respect International Humanitarian law and safeguard human rights.

In a statement on their Twitter handles, the U.S. and EU, believe attacks on humanitarian partners represent an affront to humanity.

They noted that the recent increase of violence in Northeast region of Nigeria where hundreds of thousands of vulnerable people will be left without assistance in an area where humanitarian assistance was already struggling to reach all those in need is unacceptable.

They appealed to all parties to allow people caught in violence to move freely to safe places and should facilitate unimpeded passage of humanitarian relief for civilians in need.
