Kaduna State Government has sealed the masts of telecommunications service providers due to non-payment of taxes, totaling N5.8 billion.
Secretary of Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service, KADIRS, Aisha Ahmed, says that the action is part of the enforcement measures to ensure timely tax payment.
It has been over a week since KADIRS, began sealing businesses over tax evasion and defaults. This time, the target is telecommunications companies by sealing their masts to compel them to comply with court orders, requiring payment of their outstanding tax liabilities.
Legal Adviser of the Kaduna State Urban Planning and Development Authority, KASUPDA, Samsudeen Idris, emphasised that the agency will take all necessary steps to help the State achieve its Internally Generated Revenue, IGR, target for 2024.
KADIRS mentioned that some businesses have not paid their taxes for over two years, and urged them to do so, to avoid having their premises sealed.
