The ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, caucus in the Senate, has replied to their counterparts in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, that they will block any “Constitutional measures”, targeted against President Muhammadu Buhari in the National Assembly.
The Caucus also said that any “blame game” or attempt to heap the current security challenges on Buhari will be resisted.
The PDP Caucus had on Tuesday, said that it has taken note of the serial breach of the Constitution by the APC led-government and will not be shy to deploy every constitutional means available to deal with it.
Even though the PDP hadly mentioned “impeachment”, the process is one of the options available to the opposition lawmakers.

Defending the President, the APC Caucus said Buhari is in charge and will continue to be in charge; accusing the PDP of engaging in falsehood and cheap politics.
“We want to assure Nigerians, that Mr. President is in charge of government and is discharging his duties conscientiously and patriotically saying that It was a well-known fact, that the Federal Government under the PDP, refused to invest in the security infrastructure of the country, while Mr. President under the APC led Government, had massively invested in this regard more than any past governments and are confident that the nation will surmount its current security challenges”.
The Caucus said while it recognises the role of the opposition; the misguided statement from PDP Caucus is capable of over-heating the polity and throw the country in chaos.
The APC Caucus also rejected PDP’s position, that the Buhari led government was running the Nigerian economy aground.
On the current economic woes, the APC said
“It must be noted that the global economy is in turmoil, triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic and Nigeria’s is not an exception.
“The Federal Government is aware of the challenges and is working to massively get the economy working for Nigerians, through agricultural intervention projects, infrastructure development projects and social interventions, to reduce the pains of the economic downturn on ordinary Nigerians”.
The APC Caucus dismissed the allegation of threat to the lives of members of the opposition and assured Nigerians and indeed the international community, that it will continue to uphold the tenets of the rule of law and welcome constructive criticism.
