The crisis rocking the Edo State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has taken a different dimension on Thursday as the Youth leader, Ken Omusi led group chased away the State Executive Council members and toke over the Party secretariat located on Sakponba road in Benin city, the State capital.
The youths who took over every available space of the Party secretariat said they decided to dissolve the State Executive Council due to some anomalies within the Party as regards to the just concluded governorship primaries.
While the State Exco led by Kelly Ogbaloi denied any faction within the Labour Party in Edo State, he however claimed that the State Youth leader had been suspended from the Party.
A member of the faction led by the Youth leader of the Labour Party in Edo State, Ken Omusi told ait.live that thousands of the youths had stormed the State Party secretariat in Benin City to take over the premises in the presence of heavily armed security personnel.
Omusi who claimed to be the acting Chairman of the Party in the State said the tenure of the State Executive Council had elapsed and called on the national body of the Party to begin the process of electing a new executive.
He also accused the chieftains of the Party of trading the party’s governorship ticket for the highest bidder, an allegation severally denied by the leadership the Labour Party.
The State Execurive Committee led by Kelly Ogbaloi had in a Media briefing on Wednesday, a day before the forceful take over of the secretariat said, Ken Omusi had been suspended as the Youth leader of the party and denied the existence of any faction in Labour Party.
While the Youths laid siege at the officially known Labour Party secretariat in Benin city, the State Executive led by Kelly Ogbaloi has been forced to relocate to another property on the same Sekpoba road, Benin city, snd not far away from the original building that housed the State Labour Party secretariat.
