Delta state government promises to partner with Fight Against Desert Encroachment (FADE) AFRICA as it puts up efforts in combating environmental degradation in the state.

Governor Okowa who made this known in Asaba at the state government’s flag-off of tree planting exercise as part of activities marking this year’s world desertification and drought day, said his administration would continue to come up with policies and programmes that will promote sustainable environment and check the impact of climate change.

Representative of Gov. Okowa, chief of staff government house, Festus Agas who planted a tree at the garden said the symbolic tree would act as a guide to delta to see the need for greener environment.

At the forum tagged “A Little Garden Today, A Little Forest Tomorrow “, the chief of staff said over the years, the state government through “FADE” has been part of the fight against desert encroachment and other environmental problems in the state.

Director General, Asaba Capital Development Authority, Honourable Joan Mrakpor, said the desire of the agency is to ensure that residents are living according to nature’s prescription.

Newton Jibunor, founder of Fight Against Desert Encroachment (FADE) who said a lot of grazing lands in the north have been lost to desertation while African countries had lost 30%of its land mass to the Sahara desert further revealed that his passion for environmental preservation nearly broke his home.

Friends of the environment including one of the commissioner designate, Charles Aniagwu also planted trees at the ceremony.
