11 suspects have been arrested by the Anti – Vandal unit of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC)for vandalizing the NNPC depot Pipeline also known as Yola line around Apir in Benue State North central Nigeria.
The State Commandant of NSCDC, Yakubu Ibrahim emphasized that the Corps remain committed to its mandate of protecting critical national assets and infrastructure throughout the country.
Recent statistics from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission on stability in the country’s energy sector indicates that Nigeria losses trillions of naira to pipeline vandalism and crude oil theft annually making Government consider other means of transporting the commodity.
As part of measures to check this ugly trend the anti vandal unit of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC was despatched to the NNPC depot in Apir following a tip off.
Typically this NNPC pipeline which should lead up to Yola in Adamawa State has been completely vandalised.
11 suspects were immediately apprehended at the crime scene and were taken for questioning.
A total of 16 cut pipelines and working equipment belonging to the vandals were recovered from the scene.
