The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has warned residents of Ondo State, Southwest Nigeria, to be prepared to mitigate the impact of impending flooding in the year 2024.
The Acting Zonal Director of NEMA in the South-West region, Stephen Adewale gave the warning at the end of a week-long meeting of officials of disaster management agencies, security personnel and other relevant stakeholders.
Adewale said according to predictions by the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMET), six Local Government Areas in Ondo State are expected to experience flooding with two of them predicted to experience Ocean surge.
He assured of NEMA’s willingness to sustain collaboration with the State government to explore long term and more sustainable solutions to both natural and human induced disasters.
