The Federal Government has urged Nigerian Universities to be at the forefront of Fighting the scourge of corruption, which is one of the banes of the Nation’s development, even as it promises to continue to improve infrastructure in Nigerian Public Universities towards enhancing the quality of teaching and learning for staff and students.

President Bola Tinubu represented by the Vice Chancellor Usmanu Dan fodio University, Sokoto, Professor Lawal Bilbis made the call during the second combined third and fourth convocation of the Federal University, Gusau, where he took time to commiserate with the abducted female students, their parents and the university community over the incident which occurred last year.

Gathered at the convocation square of the Federal University in Gusau were Politicians, traditional rulers, academic students, and members of the University community for the combined Third and fourth convocation of the University.

He assured that the Federal Government will not relent in its efforts to tackle the prevailing insecurity confronting the country and to bring perpetrators of the abduction of female students of the Federal University, Gusau to book to serve as a deterrent to others.

Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State stated that his administration is working round the clock to tame the insecurity facing the state through an in-house arraignment of Community Protection Guards (CPG)
collaborating with conventional security forces to secure the State.

He, however, disclosed that the State government planned to make education compulsory and accessible to every child, as it focuses on recruiting qualified teachers.

The Vice-Chancellor of Federal University, Gusau Professor Muazu Abubakar while congratulating the 2534 graduating students, charged them to demonstrate good character, and leverage the knowledge acquired to contribute to national development, calling on the Federal and Zamfara State Governments, and other stakeholders to support the University through funding and security.

The VC said the issue of insecurity is not an exaggeration, kidnapping of people for ransom creates anxiety and emotional instability, and he believes early completion of the ongoing construction of the perimeter fence will in no small measure help to curb the menace.
